California Dreamin

So, for ages, my mister and I were thinking we would probably like living somewhere nice in the South... not sure that we wouldn't, but lately, with options open for where we'll go after our stint on the island, I find my mind fixating toward LA. I nearly moved to LA after college, but something pulled me toward New York so I went there instead as I had dreamed I would all through my youth. However, I've never put LA out of my mind as a potential destination and lately it's all I think about. What it would be like to live there.

Now, I've never actually been to Los Angeles. I've never been west of Vegas, but I feel like that's all changing soon! I'm setting my sites on taking a trip out there next year with my hubs - an investigative vacay of sorts. We are still thinking of trips to the South on our long weekends and maybe a road trip through the deep south around Christmas. We've plenty of time left here to research and dream about where we'd like to go next as well as vacation days that will need filling - I'd like to fill them with looking for a new start!

So, with that said - Who lives in LA??? Any thoughts? What should I read or watch or research before my trip out there that might give me some insight as to what it would be like to live there? Anyone attend UCLA? I'm thinking of going back to school when I get back to the US.

Also, if anyone lives in Charleston, SC - what's it like? What is the job market like there? Any good schools around? I'm considering something creative maybe like PR, publishing or maybe Law School, but I'm still undecided...

Any thoughts or opinions sent my way would be really appreciated!!!

Hope you're all enjoying your weekend! Sorry no pictures, but it's difficult to post any when using someone else's computer - hopefully we'll be able to replace ours soon enough! For now I'm off to finish reading New Moon!!! Sadly, it will still be two weeks till I can get my hands on the 3rd book - AAAAGggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Not sure how I'll wait that long! YIKES!

Pink Julep!

  1. Why do you want to move away? Just looking for something different? I have never been to CA, but I can tell you that as a FL girl, I love it here. I will probably be a Floridian for the rest of my life!

  2. You are going to go nuts waiting for the next book! New Moon was my least favorite of the 4 and I couldn't wait to start Eclipse.
LA and Charleston both seem like such great places to live--you are lucky that you get to choose!!

  3. I just came back from a vacation in Charleston! I LOVE it there and hope to live there someday! The surrounding areas are also lovely!

  4. I am about to move to LA and lived for 4 years during college and absolutely love it! You can escape to the burbs, hang out on the beach, or enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city all in one day! There are lots of schools and plenty of things to do for anyone!

  5. I've lived in Georgia for my whole life, and I love it! I'll probably never leave anywhere else unless we don't have an option and have to move for DH's job. Keeping my fingers crossed that we can stay here!

  6. How about Boston...lots of good schools and Irish pubs!

I love southern California! There's something so appealing about the lifestyle. I've vacationed there twice and we're taking the kids next April vacation.

  7. I live in Columbia, SC, just up the road from Charleston, and I can't really speak to the job market there- however, the unemployment rate in SC is 3rd in the nation, I do believe. YIKES!
However, there is a law school in Charleston- Charleston School of Law. It's fairly new. And, just up the road here in Columbia is the Univ. of South Carolina School of Law. Charleston is also home to College of Charleston which has other graduate programs.

And, Charleston is beautiful! Wouldn't be a bad place to live at all, but I'm a SC girl and partial to my Southern roots!

  8. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say hi!

I love your pictures, you look so happy in all of them!

And as for moving...well, I can't really say too much about it because I've never moved far away before, but new adventures are always meant to be taken. I have never been to LA but have been lots of other places in CA. I think it's a cool place to be.

  9. I love LA but that's just me ;) You should definitely visit (and for more than a weekend) before you decide to move here. I think it is a great city with great weather, great opportunities, great people :)

  10. I like visiting LA because there is always something fun to do and you can even go to the mountains and the beach in the same day but Orange County and San Diego are much better places to live in my opinion. Not as crowded or as dirty unless you live in the Palisades, Westwood, etc. parts of LA. UCLA is a beautiful school.

There are so many different parts of LA that it is hard to give you recommendations to research it. Entourage is actually a good representation of the "industry", Californication is a good model for Venice and Santa Monica, and the movie SWAT reminds me of the grittier parts of the city.
