And the Winner is...

This morning, before we headed out for Mr. Julep's soccer game, we went out poolside (we never made it to the beach this weekend... just too busy!) to draw the winner of this lovely eco-friendly shopper!

See my Mr. drawing the lucky winner...

And the winner is....
Abbie, please send me an e-mail at ashleyturner81@gmail.com with your mailing address and I'll get the bag in the mail to you right away. Please keep in mind it could take 3 to 4 weeks to arrive to you as I'm living on a tiny rock in the middle of the sea with a very slow postal service! :-)
Hope you girls are having a lovely Sunday - I got sunburned at the soccer game so I'm relaxing with a chic flick! 27 Dresses is on cable! YAY!!!

Good Morning

Last night, Confessions of a Shopaholic finally debuted on our tiny island and I must say... I was extremely disappointed. Sad... :-( I just finished the book a few weeks ago and I was annoyed that the movie was NOTHING like the book. Had I not read the book though, I would've probably LOVED this movie! It will probably be like the Sex and the City Movie - hated it at first but now own it and watch it at least twice a month! hahahaha

This movie also made me foaming at the mouth for a much overdue shopping trip! I just can't wait!!!

I also finally saw New Girl in Town on Tuesday - if you didn't catch this before, then rent it - or better yet, buy it! You'll love it!!! This movie is hysterical, charming and a cute love story filled with fabulous clothes, luggage and cha cha shoes! Loved this movie!!!
I'm heading out to the gym and then maybe the beach for a few hours, but planning to draw the winner of the giveaway this weekend! As soon as I draw you'll all be the first to know! Hope your weekends are starting out sparkly and fabulous!

Lilly Event in Cincinnati

So, admittedly, I'm not yet a Lilly Pulitzer fan - I've never seen her clothes in person... however, many of you post things on your blogs by Lilly Pulitzer that I think are adorable. Some are a little over the top for my tastes, but to each her own! Anyway, the point is, there's going to be a Lilly Pulitzer 50th Anniversary Jubilee event at the Dillards in Kenwood Towne Center where I'll be shopping on April 18th in Cincinnati, so I'm planning to drop in and see what all the fuss is about! I'll definitely report back. There will be vintage Lilly dresses on display, which I think will be very interesting to see.
My main objectives for the upcoming Cincinnati trip are to get my dress and have it altered, shop for my truseau, shop for the honeymoon, buy a rehearsal outfit and other small and various shopping tasks.
Since our rehearsal is a fairly casual BBQ theme, I might try on/consider one of these dresses by Lilly Pulitzer. I just LOVE the yellow one - it's totally up my alley!!!

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!!! Closes on Friday at noon!!!

Night night, dearies!

Awesome Abs Review

So, we attended the Awesome Abs class at our gym last night. It was wicked hard! I'm not a fan! hahaha The only reason is that it was soooo hard that if you don't already have Awsome Abs, like as in Arnold circa 1985, then the excercises are too hard and you end up straining. We struggled through, but sad to say, I think my spine and neck are now crippled - we're both walking a little funny and the weird thing is, everything is sore EXCEPT my abs! Hmmmmm... don't think I'll be going back to that one!

On a side note, we did see a pilates class in progress at another gym - it was near a store we went to and we walked in for a look. That class looks amazing! I might have to try that one out... I've always wanted to try pilates. Have any of you done it? What do you think? Can it get my sorry ass in shape before the wedding in 3 months?

Have an awesome day girlies!

Awesome Abs!

So, we've never taken any classes at our gym before - it's not like most American gyms... we don't have Body Pump, sadly! But it's high time I stepped up my workouts because tired or not, the wedding is just 3 short months away and in only 4 weeks, I'm getting alterations on my dress! EEEEEKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So we're heading out now to a 30 minute Awesome Abs class! I'll let you know how it goes! And if we're up to it, we might stick around for Power Circuit, which is a one hour circuit training weights class. If I don't post anymore this week, you'll know I've died from tragic working out exhaustion! hee hee

Hope y'all are having a fabulous day!!!

Menu Cards and Programs

Having worked in special events in New York City, when M proposed and we started planning the wedding I insisted that I would make EVERYTHING!!! Well, so far, I've made a lot of it and most of what I made has been lovely - not lavish, but lovely. However, I have now reached the stage where I'm completely crazy with communications to the states to vendors, wedding party, family, friends and hotels and I DON'T WANT TO MAKE STUFF ANYMORE!!!! M is completely supportive of my every choice of whether or not to buy or make and we decided today that making programs and menu cards might put us right over the edge! hahaha

Here is what we're looking at:

I think these menu cards are just lovely. The raised dots border will go perfectly with the polka dot item in the decor. We will have these printed in Fuschia.

These programs look pretty perfect. I love ribbons and have probably already kept several people in their ribbon related jobs during this ridiculous economic crisis with my obscene amount of pink and purple ribbon purchasing!
Here's where y'all come in - We love these, but we're in the initial shopping phase. We are limited to online purchase of these items, so can any of you lovely ladies recommend websites we should look at for possible menu card and program options??? Thanks, gals!!!
I hope you all had a lovely weekend!!!

Closed for Business

So, it is with a sad heart and much frustration that I explain to you all where I've been for the past week - our beautiful hotel for the guest rooms, rehearsal dinner and bridal breakfast is closing at the end of this week because of the recession's effect on business. The Vernon Manor has been a Cincinnati landmark hotel since 1924 and when we visited there in October, we saw it's true historical beauty and fell in love! The doors to the rooms have these bubbles on them from the 20's when people used to put their laundry in at night from the inside - a bellhop would collect it from the outside of the door, have it washed and return it, leaving it inside the door bubble to be there and ready for morning. It still has it's original mail shoots and the gothic architecture was unbelieveable. Sadder than this, our event coordinator there is losing her job after 19 faithful years! Sad. Here is a blurb about the Vernon Manor Hotel taken from www.historichotels.org:

"The Vernon Manor Hotel, an exercise in English Renaissance Revival and modeled after the stately Hatfield House in England, has been a Cincinnati landmark since 1924. The hotel, which overlooks the city skyline, was originally built as a retreat for wealthy Cincinnatians longing to get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Perched atop one of the cities’ Seven Hills, many of the 177 spacious guestrooms and suites feature city views. "

Also, the Beatles stayed at the Vernon Manor Hotel during their 1966 tour and the Rainman was filmed there. The address, 400 Oak Street, was also used in the film. Recession is killing some of our history and I hope it gets sorted soon!

The lucky thing is, their sister hotel agreed to take our contract as is as well as our existing reservations and honor the same rates. We are movin on up like George and Weezy I tell ya!!! Though it's more corporate than we originally wanted (we originally hoped for a nice big B&B which we couldn't find - Vernon was closest to our vision) our guests will enjoy the luxurious comfort of the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza right down town for the same rates!!! It's just gorgeous and though not what we wanted, I'm really excited about it now! This is another historical property famous for its extravagant art deco interiors! We never would have chosen this originally as we were trying to keep the costs down for people travelling for our big day - it's like we've upgraded to first class now though! Woo hoo!!!

While we ended up moving our rehearsal dinner in the end, they are still honoring our breakfast and get this... It's going to be in the JULEP ROOM!!!! I took that as a sign!!! Here are some photos:

So, sorry I've been MIA - I've had to rebook the entire wedding week except the ceremony and reception! YIKES!!!
Stay tuned - I think my next post is my 100th and you know what that means.... GIVEAWAY!
I got something really cool that I am sure is hard to find in the states, if you even knew to look for it... it's cute, it's French and it might help you reduce your carbon footprint! Stay tuned...

Welcome Gifts for Our Wedding Guests

I hope y'all are having a lovely weekend! We sure are! I started out by waking up early this morning... spent some time loading my rehearsal dinner playlist and some other new tunes onto my ipod so I could listen and weed out any bad choices while working out at the gym. I got to the gym this morning with a burst of energy and had an excellent workout!!!

After the gym, I'm proud to report that I finished shopping for the Stationary Swap! I sure hope my partner, the lovely Europafox will like what I've gotten for her! I've just had a blast shopping for her package! I did some other shopping as well and picked up something to give away for my 100th post which is coming up very soon!!! I got something that I think is just as fabulous as it is socially responsible - that is the only hint you're getting!

Right now I'm burning endless cd's for the welcome gift bags that will be left at the hotel for our out-of-town guests! I'm really into planning this part of the wedding. We don't have a HUGE budget for it, but I really want to do something nice for people who are travelling to our wedding. What I don't want is to spend a load of money on stupid favors that will end up in the trash!

Since y'all were so nice to send me ideas, I thought I'd share what we decided on! First off, there will be a cd of some of our favorite love songs. Here's the playlist:

1. Someone Like You - Van Morrison (This is our first dance song)
2. Just Like Heaven - The Cure
3. Love Shack - B-52's
4. Love You Till the End - The Pogues
5. My Everything - Barry White
6. Bubbly - Colbie Caillat
7. I'm Yours - Jason Mraz
8. Forever in Blue Jeans - Neil Diamond
9. When You Say Nothing at All - Ronan Keating
10. Woman - John Lennon
11. No One - Alicia Keys
12. She - Elvis Costello
13. I'll Be There - Jackson 5
14. For Once in My Life - Stevie Wonder
15. Can't Help Falling In Love - UB40
16. Friday I'm In Love - The Cure
17. Stand By Me - John Lennon
18. When a Man Loves a Woman - Percy Sledge
19. Have I Told You Lately - Van Morrison
20. Can't Get Enough of Your Love - Barry White

I picked this cd kit up a few weeks ago and it's so pretty - our colors are pink and purple so it's perfect!!! It's made by Chronicle Books and it's very easy to use!

We decided against the Kentucky theme. It seemed a little one sided since M is from Ireland and also, wouldn't it be a little weird to have the KY theme even though the wedding is in Ohio? It just didn't sit well with me!
The welcome bags will look similar to this - either in pink or purple with a contrasting organza ribbon bow to tie it closed.

This is one choice for the cookie we'll order in either Lavendar filigree or...

Pink filigree.

We don't really know how many to expect so we still have time to decide on cookies and how many to order. But the idea is that every person in the hotel will receive a small goodie bag. A little sugary treat to tide them over!
Alright, I'm back to work here at Wedding Headquarters!

Just Another Day!

So, I was having the most amazing day! No really, I was... I got a lot done at work today! I got a phone call from the US saying my wedding dress came in!!! Eeeekkkk!!! Then, when I checked the mail, I got a lovely birthday card from my grandparents with a little $$$ in it! Whoop whoop!

It gets better...

When I came home, the first thing I did was look at expedia.com to see when I could fly up to the US to get my dress, arrange for alterations, and do some much much needed shopping! Not only did I have my pick of flights, but expedia is currently waving all fees in honor of that timeless tradition of SPRING BREAK! Not only that, but hotels were having sales and expedia was giving a percentage off for booking both flight and hotel!!! So, ladies, if you're planning a trip at all, I highly suggest you bring out the visa and go to expedia sooner than later!!!

I was originally planning on staying at the Hyatt Regency in the Saks Fifth Avenue Center (for obvious reasons) but then I came across something amazing!!! There's a beautiful old hotel there called The Cincinnatian. It's pretty fancy!!! In 1987 the hotel underwent a $25 million renovation, but they kept the original old-world lavish charm. I think this place is just gorgeous - I tried to do our wedding, rehearsal or guest rooms there, but none of it worked out and all of it was way over our budget!

You can imagine my surprise when I found that this very hotel was on sale and CHEAPER than most others in the neighborhood!!! Not only that, but it's only a block away from the Saks Fifth Avenue Center so I can still mosey over there for a quick look!!! So it's all set... on April 17th, I'll be going to Cincinnati on my own for a girlie weekend - maybe I'll see some family or a bridesmaid will come up to visit, but honestly, I don't mind - I'm just happy to go to America and have some good ole All American shopping pedicuring retail therapy FUN!!!!!!!!!

And I'll be staying here:

Maybe dining or having high tea (I've always wanted to have tea, but never have!) here:

And sleeping after a long day of shopping here:

These are pictures of Bridal and Formal in the Reading Ohio Wedding District where I purchased my dress! I'm so excited to go back there now that I'm further into the planning and know what I need and what I'm looking for. This place has everything a bride could want and all on one street!!!

This is the lobby/waiting area - so cute!!!

After all of this excitement, we went to get some milk in a shopping center nearby and I found some great stuff to send to my stationary swap partner, Europafox! Let me tell ya, ladies - it's been hard! I have slim pickins on an island, but I will not stop till I've scoured the island and exhausted every option to make her a FABULOUS package to ship right on over to Jolly Ole England!
So, this day all in all was a really good day!
UNTIL...
On our way home from shopping, I was pulled over by a Cayman Islands police officer for speeding. I didn't even know what the limit was - it's not like the signs here are good and visable. Believe me, they're not - I've hardly seen any ever! Not to mention that all the cars' spedometers are in Kilometers, but the speed limits are in miles - I'm not THAT good at math! Ridiculous!!! The ticket - $100 CI which is $125 USD! OUCH!!! No warning, nothing! I only hope it won't effect my imigration status on the island... I still need at least one more work permit before the wedding or I'm off to live with mama for 2 months! hahahaha
I was pretty fuming and then I found this which cheered me RIGHT UP!!! Thanks so much to Jane in the Waiting Line for this award - you're kindness and cheery upityness just saved me from eating an entire tub of ice cream in depression over my speeding ticket! Y'all bloggals are just the best I tell ya!

this award asks me to name 7 things i love and to pass it along to 7 bloggers i love! so with out further ado:
1. Cheap generic chocolate grocery store brand ice cream!!! - don't know what it is about this, but I LOVE it! Maybe cause that's what my granny gave us when we were small - there was a recession in the 80's too, ya know!
2. Lean Cuisine Pizza - just had one for dinner and have just discovered these - my new favorite food!!!
3. Chick Flicks and Chick Lit - I just can't live without either and need healthy doses of each regularly!!!
4. Blogging - Seriously, I have never enjoyed something so much - I look forward to reading everyone's blogs every day and I've learned so much from y'all! It's fab, especially since I'm so far from home and all my friends!
5. Disney World - It's the Happiest Place on Earth! I'm going there for my honeymoon... nuff said!
6. Travelling in Style - whether I am staying at a fancy resort or a cheap & cheerful quaint B&B, I really appreciate soaking up everything I can when I'm travelling and I like to keep it interesting in terms of hotel! I'm not snobby at all - I've definitely stayed many times at the "we'll leave the light on for ya" trucker hotels before! But I always sleep so well in hotels and I particularly love one with a story behind it! We're staying in a suite where the Beatles stayed during their tour in the 60's on our wedding night in a hotel where The Rainman was filmed - LOVE IT!!!
7. Concerts! I haven't been to many compared to most people, but I'm currently trying to get tickets to see the one and only MJ, the King of Pop in London!!! EEEKKKK!!!! I hope we get them!!! I haven't seen a concert in at least a year or more, but I love them!!!
Okay, that's it... I tag:

Play Time is OVER!

Our birthdays are over now and so is our fun - it's back to wedding planning! With only 3 months, 2 weeks and 1 day until the wedding, there is much to do! We have like 15 weekends before the wedding - one of those is used up travelling to the wedding and another is used up when I go to the states soon to collect my dress and arrange for alterations! We are mad crazy busy!!! But it's kind of fun!!!

M and I have just sat down for the past few hours hammering out a playlist for our Rehearsal Dinner Rooftop BBQ!!! We were going back and forth between 50's/Rockabilly music and country music when it hit us!!! We had been trying to implement some cajun-ish sort of music into a part of our reception and it wasn't going well - we have definite music plans for all 8 hours! Crazy, I know! So we decided that we'd do a nod to my Southern roots (though not from Louisiana AT ALL - I've never even been there much to my dismay!) and use dixieland/Cajun/Zydeco music for the rehearsal dinner! I think it will fit in well with our theme even though we're not serving shrimp, gumbo or jumbalaya! It's pretty close to country, which would have been my first choice, but because most of it is in French, none of my Yankee relatives will make fun of me and we'll seem tres chic for chosing it! hee hee

I got the idea cause I LOVE some of the music from Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood which is one of my favorite movies and all Steel Magnolias - the wedding scene music is TO DIE FOR!!! LOVE IT!!!

This is a really great way for me to bring some Southern Charm to my wedding and I'm soooo excited!!! Hopefully it will be really fun and everyone will like it.

Whoop Whoop!!!

I am currently reading The Devil in the Junior League and I decided to go online to look at Linda Francis Lee's website - for those of you who don't know, she's the author. I was very shocked and excited to see the following:

"Universal Studies Options THE DEVIL IN THE JUNIOR LEAGUE
Jennifer Garner Signs on to Star and Produce
Screenwriter Kate Kondell takes a trip into the world of Texas Socialites as she writes the screenplay for DEVIL"

YAY!!! I love Jennifer Garner!!! Whoop whoop! That's gonna be a great movie!!!

Birthdays, Post Cards, Awards, Books and a Very Disturbing UniBoob!

Thanks so much to everyone for all the very sweet Birthday wishes!!! Y'all are sooooo sweet! I had a lovely birthday including a cake from my manager at work and everything! Really nice!

I had four comments with e-mail addresses, so there's still one unclaimed postcard from the Cayman Islands! The next e-mail address comment I receive will be the fifth winner! Thanks to those who played! As soon as you respond to my e-mail with your addresses, I'll pop those postcards in the mail! (Takes about 3 weeks to get there from here!)

In other news, a while back Snickerdoodle Champagne bestowed upon me the Fabulous Blog Award and I'm terribly flattered! Thanks so much SC!!! So sweet of you!

So yesterday while in line at the bank (a very long line) I finished Confessions of a Shopaholic. Great book!!! I can't wait to see the movie - hopefully it will come to our little island soon... who knows? Anyway, I'm excited to read the rest of the books... this one was sooo cute!

My next book is The Devil in the Junior League, which I started this afternoon - I'm liking it so far. The first couple of chapters are pretty funny! I'll let you know how I like it when I'm finished... seems like it will be a quick and fun read!

One more thing...

Did anyone else see this frightening picture??? I don't dispute the fabulousness that is Heidi Klum, but who let her leave the house with this frightening teeny tiny uniboob situation?!??! She's a Victoria's Secret model for cryin out loud - it should be in her contract that she never scare people with her mini-uniBOOB!!!!

That's all the gossip for now - sorry I haven't been commenting as much but I've suddenly become extremely busy! We're in the home stretch for the wedding now - less than 4 months away and the schedules have become unreal with all the little details! I'll keep you updated!!!

Pink Julep!

In celebration of my 28th birthday I will send a personally written postcard from The Cayman Islands to the first 5 people who comment on this post with their e-mail addresses!!!

Fun Weekend!

Hi gals! Sorry I've been MIA recently... we've been quite busy this week! My manager at work had a birthday on Wednesday so we took him out Tuesday night for a howl of an evening (we had Wednesday off work!!!) and he really seemed to enjoy himself! Then a surprise birthday party on Friday night which was very fun! And yesterday we attended a friend's Country Ho Down BBQ for her mother-in-law from England's 70th birthday party - that was great! So we've been very social this weekend, not leaving too much time for the blogging but it's been loads of fun! I also finally got my hair done for the first time in ages yesterday! It's pretty gorgeous, if I do say so myself! Thank God I've finally found a place that does great hair on this island!!! My first experience in a salon here was frightening and left my hair in patchy, spotty funny colors for a pretty hefty price tag. Not nice!!! This place was good and the stylists really know what they're doing - and it was much cheaper than the crappy place! Go figure!

Is anyone else excited about this?

My ever-so-attentive husband-to-be allerted me to this saying that he thought I would enjoy it! We are getting geared up to watch it tonight at 8pm on the STYLE channel! It's about 3 interns at Marie Claire. I always LOVE these shows! Can't wait to see how it goes - and Nina Garcia is involved... she hasn't always been my favorite, but she's growing on me.

Can't forget Big Love tonight - last week's episode was so good! CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Hope y'all have had great weekends too!

xoxo,

Pink Julep
