Busy Busy Weekend

We have a lot to do this weekend since our party is only 1 week away!!! This whole week is going to be hectic and busy for us, but in a fun way!!!

This will be the first time we're having a party in our home! We have plenty of RSVP's and it's bound to be a festive and jolly night of Christmas merrymaking!!!

I'm going to be doing a lot of the cooking ahead of time as some items will keep in the refrigerator for a while and others can be frozen and then warmed up later! Today I'm going to get started or at least to a practice run of Truffles!!! I hope they turn out as pretty as these:

I'll also be starting my holiday cookie baking today!

And this evening we're heading out to Cayman's own Irish pub, Fidel Murphy's for drinks with a friend!

Then, hopefully home early so we can pop this into the DVD player!!!

And wake up early to start all over again! So much cleaning, decorating and cooking to do! Exciting!!! What are you guys up to this weekend?!?!

It's a Hairy Situation

If I don't use a nice conditioner on my hair, I resemble Bozo the Clown! I have frizzy half curly, half straight hair naturally, and in the heat and humidity of the Caribbean, it's only worse!

I recently began using Biolage Conditioning Balm about 3 to 5 times a week and I must say, my hair has never felt softer! It's also not quite as frizzy in the heat, which is really nice!

I know this product has been around forever, but it only goes to show that just like the song says, "Everything Old is New Again!"

HAPPY FRIDAY!!! Have a great weekend, y'all!

Giving Thanks for Turkey Today in a British Overseas Territory

Hey all! I hope you're enjoying your holiday today!

Even though Thanksgiving isn't a holiday here on island, people are still sensitive to it and often restaurants will serve a special menu for both Canadian and American Thanksgivings!

Tonight, Mr. Julep (who's Irish and therefore is a sport about doing the Thanksgiving thing for me) is taking me out for turkey dinner here, at Casanova's by the Sea!

This is the view from the sea! I think this restaurant, one of our few Italian restaurants, is a great little spot and very pretty!

Happy shopping tomorrow everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving today!!! Eat some turkey for me while I'm working away!

Pink Julep at Blockbuster: Film Reviews

I will forever be a fan of Lifetime and made for tv movies! And I love it that so many of them make their way to DVD these days and show up at our local Blockbuster!

Last weekend hubby and I rented these two:

Warning, do not watch these movies if you don't want to BALL YOUR EYES OUT!!! These had me in a real state, box of tissues in hand! But who doesn't love a good sappy flick around the holidays to give ya a good ole cry and remind you to be human! Peace on earth and all that good mushy stuff! Anyway, they are both bad films, but I liked them and think they both have really good messages!

PS - I'm seeing NEW MOON tonight and I'm sooooo excited!!!

Pink Julep in the Shower: Product Review

I have been using Blonde Solid Shampoo from LUSH for about 2 weeks now. This is my first experience with using a solid shampoo and I wouldn't have picked it out on my own, but it was a free gift. Pink Julep LOVES free gifts with purchase!!! So I gave it a shot. I have to say, I don't mind the result... I feel like my hair does look shiny and light. However, I'm not a fan of this product and probably won't ever purchase it. It takes absolutely AGES to get the lather I need and even then, it still doesn't feel like I get enough bubbles. After I rinse it out, my hair feels a little dry and that scares me, but also, there's a strange feeling of having not washed my hair at all. Kind of like when you use those wipe-off cream facial cleansers... it just doesn't feel like it's doing it's primary job!
The scent of this product is nice and if you're a fan of solid shampoos, I'd say give it a whirl. But if you're like me and you enjoy sudsing it up in the tub, stick to the good ole liquid shampoo!

Excitement for the Julep Family!!!

I am beyond excited to report that yesterday, hubby and I booked tickets to see a concert in LA a couple of days before Christmas! We'll be heading to the Nokia Theatre for the Monster Ball Tour featuring:
and Her Fabulousness...

We are huge Lady Gaga fans and I'm so excited!!! It's been a long time since I've been to a concert and there's rarely anything worth seeing here on the island so we're super psyched!!!

Pink Julep at the Movies: Couples Retreat

Hubby and I went to see this last night. It was cute and definitely had its moments, but it wasn't the best I've seen. Definitely a renter though! And Vince Vaughn is EXCELLENT in this movie!!! Love him!!! On the other hand, most of the other performers in the film were not really showcased for what they do best... it's hard to watch Jason Bateman or Kristen Davis play characters I don't like since they are such wonderful additions to the other films they're in! Bummer!

New Moon - Not Coming to a Theatre Near Me! GRRR

I've been eagerly checking the website for our movie theatre on the island every 4 hours for the past two weeks in an attempt to be the first person on the island to book tickets for New Moon's opening this Friday.

Boy was I surprised to find out this morning that New Moon isn't opening on the island this Friday! GRRRR ARE THEY KIDDING ME?!?!?!?! Only the most anticipated film of the year. It's not fair. I'm furious! If I thought every showing wouldn't be sold out, I'd shuffle my little Pink Julep behind onto a 747 and go to Miami to see it. It's just not fair... I've been waiting for ages to see this movie, but I suppose I'll have to settle for Whip It, which is probably already out on DVD in the US but only opening here on this Friday... Dear God, how I miss civilization sometimes! Grrrr

Sorry for the rant, but they're keeping me from my Edward and I had to get that off my chest! hahahaha

A Christmas Carol

Hubby and I went to see A Christmas Carol on Sunday and though it wasn't offered here in 3D, we LOVED it! It was great! I highly recommend it but be warned, this might be a tad bit scary for very young children. Great film and perfect for getting into the holiday spirit!!!

If it's still playing around the holidays, we might have to see it again in 3D when we visit the US. It would totally be worth it!

Happy Tuesday!

Over the weekend, Hubby and I attended a luau at my boss's beautiful home on the beach! I've never seen such an exquisite home! Unfortunately I wasn't able to take photos of the party, however I did manage to get some crappy photos with my phone on our way out the door!

Here's hubby in his hula gear:

And me:

We had a great time and partied till the wee hours, though on Sunday we were a bit worse for the wear! hahaha But it was totally worth it! People here love costume parties (or fancy dress parties as they call them) and our next one is Saturday Night Fever themed asking for 70's & 80's costumes. Should be interesting!

Dreaming of Dresses!

With the holidays around the corner, and more exciting, my upcoming trip to LA, I've been looking online and getting really excited about dresses! So many events and dinners coming up and the shopping will be divine in LA I'm sure!!! Here are a few that I'm currently lusting after, starting with my absolute favorite:

Lauren by Ralph Lauren at Nordstrom

Calvin Klein at Nordstrom

J. Crew

Looking forward to picking up a few new pieces for the season!

Decking the Halls!

With our Christmas party less than three weeks away, hubby and I ventured out on Friday night and Saturday morning to get a head start on buying some decorations for our apartment! We got many fabulous things and I won't share them all tonight, but here are a few things we're excited to use for our upcoming party!

Hubby got a Santa hat and I picked up a jingle bell necklace as well as this adorable apron, since I'll be busy popping treats in and out of the oven!

Also, I'm planning to have a sort of buffet situation with loads of nibbles and deserts - finger foods if you will so we grabbed some cocktail napkins and small paper plates in these patterns and I LOVE them!

Here's a close-up of the Mistletoe Martini pattern. Too Cute!
I had some of this pattern left over from last year and I will use them as well. I think these are hilarious!
Since we don't have Thanksgiving here, the time to start decorating usually falls right about now, just after Pirate's Week. The lights are up in town now and several homes on the island have begun decorating outside. We'll be decorating next weekend and I'll post pictures of the rest of our goodies then! So excited for this time of year! I just love it!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Coco Chanel

Hubby and I rented this movie the other night and just loved it! It was very good considering that it's a made-for-tv movie! I just love the Lifetime biopics though! I always have and I always will!!!

If you watch this, you'll definitely recognize some of your favorite Chanel quotes! Shirley MacLaine is brilliant as usual and all in all, it's a beautiful fun movie to watch!

We are enjoying Pirate's Week and going to a luau tonight! So much fun! I love "the season" so much better than the summers here!

Lovely Scented Candle

I picked up this candle for our bedroom at the grocery store and it's HEAVENLY! I burned it for only about 2 hours before bed and when we entered our bedroom it smelled divine! I highly recommend this candle for yourself or for a gift! It's scent is great for the holidays too! YUM!

Have a great weekend!!!

It's That Time of Year Again!

Mr. Julep and I are getting out our pirate gear again for this year's Cayman Islands Annual Pirates Week Festival which kicks off tomorrow and lasts for about 1 1/2 weeks!

The big events start on Saturday with a Pirate's Landing and parade. Literally EVERYONE in town dresses up like a pirate and crowds the streets for festivities, food and of course, drinking in the blistering heat! Shiver me timbers!

The night ends with fantastic fireworks over the water and everyone flooding the streets going from bar to bar!

Now, I'll leave you with a horrible joke:

Why are Pirates so mean?

Because they just ARRRRRGGGGH! hahahaha (lame, I know!)

Happy Pirates Week from the Cayman Islands!

Long Weekend Update

Our long weekend started off with a Thursday night trip to the movies! We went to see Zombieland. It held my interest, but was all around a pretty bad film. Don't waste your money... wait till it comes on the telly. Not even a renter in my opinion, though to be fair, it does have some funny moments.

On Friday, we decided to have Thanksgiving since we aren't given that holiday here. We started off the day with nibbles and Christmas movies! We watched Christmas With the Kranks, which I loved and Santa Baby starring Jenny McCarthy, which was cute too! We nibbled on mini chicken salad sandwhiches and Pigs in a Blanket (pictured below). [sorry for the poor quality Blackberry photo!]

Dinner was a huge success! I made a turkey breast in the crockpot with mashed potatoes and green beens. There was lucky chocolate pie for desert and of course, wine! YUM!!! Here's a photo. I know the table doesn't match the hideous Golden Girls decor, but we can't really help that while we're here... don't judge! :-)

After dinner we headed out to the movies again to see All About Steve. This film, though sweet and sometimes funny, was also a disappointment.

We shopped all day on Saturday, mostly looking for something I could wear to the luau coming up this weekend, but alas, the Shopping Gods were not smiling on us! I live on an island and I can't find any island gear anywhere! Ugh!!!
After all the shopping, I finally settled down to finish the last of the thank-you cards for our wedding gifts. Late, I know! But it's a hefty job, even when you have a smallish wedding! Alas, they are finished! Just in time for me to start sending out Christmas cards... it never ends!

We spent the entire day cleaning and organizing on Sunday, which was much needed and when we finally settled down to watch some telly that night, we discovered this little visitor on our front door window (approximately 10 feet off the ground! How'd he get there?!?!)!

And finally, on Monday, we chilled out. We watched a couple of dvd's, went to the pool and spent about 4 hours planning our upcoming trip to LA. We've made dinner reservations for every night and reserved a few lunches and breakfasts too! Exciting!!! And a neighbor dropped round this picture of us in the pool, which I love. Yes, we look stoned and disheveled, but we're totally sober and just enjoying the pool!

Feeling refreshed after an extended rest and so happy that we're organized with a super tidy house! Will come in handy to be up to speed with the holiday season in full gear! Nice that we only have a 4 day week this week too!
Happy Tuesday!

New Shoes!!!

If you're a regular reader, you've read my whining about the lack of shopping on the island and how when there's shopping, unless it's duty-free it's marked up so high that you pay more than double and it sucks! However, I must admit that it's getting a little better and a few nights ago, I picked up these beauties:

Adorable ballet flats by Jessica Simpson! They are soooo comfy and I just love them! I've resisted flats here because of the heat (i.e. stinky feet) but I'm so glad I finally broke down! It's flats for me most of the time from now on! The nature of my job doesn't really cater to me wearing heels that often. Too much walking, standing, and running. Also, the cobblestones and concrete just ruin your heels! So I'll save the heels for special days and nights out and start enjoying my flats for work! I need a pair in every color, style and brand now!!!!!! hahaha Must try on some Reva's when I go on vacay!

Pink Julep at the Movies: This is It

I'd like to say that I really enjoyed this movie but I'm just not sure I can, but not because it's bad. I'm a huge MJ fan and a big ole softy and I cried through the whole film! What a tragic loss! And let's face it... he may or may not have done some things that were strange or immoral, but there's absolutely NO denying that Michael Jackson was an innovative performer and quite possibly the greatest showman on earth! In this film, we get to see how he works and he was nothing if not a perfectionist as well as a talented musician and dancer with and eye for what looks good and an ear for what sounds amazing!

One of my favorite things about this film was the rockin guitar player Orianthi! She's gorgeous and this chick rocks! What an amazing talent! She made me wanna buy a HOT PINK Stratacaster ASAP!!!

The dancing is everything you'd expect from the King of Pop who has had us all moonwalking in the kitchen when no one is looking since the 80's! (Admit it... you know you do it too!) I found it disturbing that at 50 years old and in a fragile state, MJ made the 25 year old professionals around him look like amateurs. It was just confirmation that NO ONE WILL EVER BE THAT GOOD AGAIN! Scary!

As a dancer I learned a lot of MJ's choreography in classes through the years and I found it difficult to not get out of my seat and shake a boogie! SHAMON!

But all in all, I am so saddened by the loss. I'm also sad that my whole life I've dreamed of seeing Michael Jackson live and I never got to. Hubby promised to take me to London to see the This is It tour and we all know how that turned out. However, in seeing this film, we get to see Michael Jackson the person. Someone who cares about the planet and the environment. Someone who regularly tells the people around him that he loves them. Someone who was eager to work hard and bring something to the stage that no one had EVER seen before! It's definitely a must-see film!

Happy Movie Watching!

Everyday is a Good Day to Give Thanks!

Who says you HAVE to have Thanksgiving on the day the calendar says you should?!?! Here on island, we don't have Thanksgiving for obvious reasons, but that doesn't keep me from missing one of my favorite holidays! However, we have a 4 day weekend coming up, a turkey breast in the fridge and a brand new crock-pot, so hubby and I are celebrating Faux Thanksgiving on Friday and I can't wait! Gonna have turkey, mash, pie and all the fixins then watch Christmas movies and maybe get out to the cinema for a flick or a drink in the pub! I'm excited! It's the only Thanksgiving I'm gonna get this year so I plan to make the most of it!

Look out for the announcement of the giveaway winner tomorrow evening! I'm drawing tonight!!!
