The Le Montrose Suite Hotel, West Hollywood, California

For our Christmas trip to LA we stayed at the Le Montrose Suite Hotel. It was nothing short of fabulous!!! I would recommend this little gem to anyone travelling to Los Angeles. It's modern and has a European charm. Very cozy and several celebs have stayed there. Most recently I heard of Nikki Reed and Ashley Greene of Twilight staying there. It's gorgy! I don't blame them!

We had a junior suite with a balcony and it was fab. The next 3 pictures are of the views from our suite.

Our suite had a fireplace in it which was awesome, especially since it was cold!

This is the living area where we played board games on Christmas Day!

The bed...

The room was just perfect. It had a big screen tv with all the good channels and movies on demand. There was a dvd player and a stereo. The mini-bar was well-stocked and reasonably priced. Also a snack bar with chips and nibbles. My only complaint about this hotel is that the food wasn't good and the bathroom, at least in the jr. suite was very small, but otherwise, this place was soooo perfect!

Beverly Hills - That's Where I Want to Be...

Unfortunately we don't have too many photos from each area... we were having so much fun we didn't bother... but this was my favorite part of Beverly Hills!

In a park on the side of the road on Santa Monica Blvd. I saw this statue and I swear, I pulled over at 4am, got out of the car and ran to take a photo!

This is a statue by my favorite artist, Yayoi Kusama! She's a Japanese artist who lives in a mental institution by choice... strange, I know. She became famous by painting her naked body in polka dots and posing for photos. Most of her art involves her famous polka dots and it's just adorably beautiful and poignant at the same time. If you're interested, read more about her here.

This statue made me sooooo happy as I have never ever seen one of her statues in real life! And I didn't even know it was there!

Totally random, but this is me... sportin my new sunnies from Cole Haan! I couldn't resist these purple beauties!!!

I'm Back!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas!!! I sure did! We got back from LA yesterday and I worked this morning so I'm a bit tired, but I thought I'd update you a little on my trip! I'll start with what I know we all know most... SHOPPING!!!

This picture is for all you Tory Burch lovers! Taken on Robertson Blvd.

I think we made out like bandits!

Ever since I saw Clueless I've dreamed of going to Fred Segal and well, I did... for about 2 hours!

I also got my first coach bag. Photos to follow later on. It's pretty gorgy though!

We hit a lot of great shopping including Century City, Target, Best Buy, The Grove, The Beverly Center, Robertson Blvd., Melrose, and the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. It was a Pink Julep dream come true!!!
More to come...

Christmas Humor

Sometimes at this time of year we get so caught up in getting the perfect gifts, having the perfect tree or roasting the perfect turkey... our families get on our nerves or we don't have as much as we did last year, but this is a time for being with the people we love, enjoying ourselves no matter what we can afford to do and most importantly, it's a time to remember to have fun and LAUGH!

With that said, below are a selection of Christmas funnies! Pink Julep reminds you during this festive season to take a minute to breath, look around you, appreciate what and who you have, fondly remember who you've lost, be thankful, see your blessings around you and laugh your heart out! Start with these:

Merry Christmas!!!

A Christmas Miracle for my FACE!

It all started when I went to the Duty Free to pick up mascara. Since they were out of YSL Singulier which I haven't yet tried, I went back to this old faithful... I'm over DS Iconic... Let's face it, I can't put it on without getting it all over my face, so therefore, it's not for me. End of story as far as I'm concerned.

While I was there, I made an appointment to meet with a Nars artist as I am forever seeking a better alternative for my foundation/powder. I've been using the same thing since I was 15 and I can't get it here, nor could I get it in NYC. It's a huge hassle to have to stock up when I'm home visiting or worse yet, have my mom ship me my foundation! Ridonkulous! So I decided to try Nars! I love all the products I've used from Nars, so I assumed I'd be pleased!

And let me tell you... I'm ecstatic!!!

I start now with the primer. Nars offers two versions of primer. One is just standard and the black bottle below which is what I have, has SPF20! Perfect for the sun here! I had never tried primer before ever, but let me tell you, I'm a believer! My make-up stays on ALL DAY now, no matter how much I sweat or how many times (gross I know) I touch my face or blow my nose! This is the Christmas miracle I've always dreamed of!!! Not looking like a zebra by noon!!!
I opted for the sheer glow foundation. I love that you can put it on with your fingers. It doesn't take much, which is great and it goes on really easily. The coverage is great, but it's not too thick and muddy, which I HATE! It's jsut perfect and does everything you want a foundation to do! I'm soooo happy with it!

To seal the deal, I'm using Nars loose powder. I have had issues with loose powders before. I've tried them all, Clinique, Laura Mercier, everything. This one is fantastic. It simply does its job and sets the foundation, but it doesn't leaving me looking all matted and powdery. I still finish with my Stilla shimmer powder on my nose, cheeks and forehead, but to be honest, I wouldn't have to necessarily... I just like to be super glowy.

While I was there, I picked up a sharpener too. And I love it. It holds the shavings inside. And it has 2 sizes.
Most of these products were in the $25 - $30 range, which I think is reasonable for a product that makes me want to get out of bed in the morning just to put my face on. If you're looking for a great way to highlight the beauty that's already on your face, I suggest you make an appointment with a Nars artist and see what she shows you!
Today I'm off to get a facial, eyebrow wax and mani/pedi for my trip to LA! Hope you're all having a great weekend!!!

Pink Julep Reads: The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie

I finished this book last night and though it took me ages (because I never have sit down quiet time to read) I absolutely LOVED it!!!
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley is a mystery set in 1950's England and told from the point of view of Flavia de Luce, a young girl who is obsessed with chemistry and poisons! I won't give much away and hate reviews for doing so and ruining books and films for me sometimes! What I will say is that though it sounds odd, reading a story from the point of view of an intelligent and wiley child is soooo interesting and not childish at all! Those of you who've read
Atonement can compare... I also loved Atonement! Great book!!!
My next read is light and fluffy... Celebutantes by Amanda Goldberg & Ruthanna Khalighi Hopper! I'm hoping it makes the long trip to LA fly by... no pun intended! HA!
Happy reading!

Red Hot Holiday Lips!

About a week ago I went patrolling the local duty free shops for a holiday red lipstick and you can imagine my surprise when I found that my favorite duty free shop added Nars to their merchandise! Nars is one of my favorite brands and I've been deprived of it most of the time I've been living here! I decided to try Lizard Red and let me tell ya girls, it's love! This is a fabulous lip color! Get thee to a Sephora and try it on!!!

Pink Julep at the Movies: Disney's The Princess and the Frog

Mr. Julep took me out for a fun treat on Sunday! I have long been a fan of Disney animated features and we went to see The Princess and the Frog! Honestly, yes I am an adult, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't LOVE IT!!! It was beautiful, funny, had a great story and the music was fantastic!!! Even Oprah supplied the voice for one of the characters! Songs in the film are performed by greats such as Dr. John, Jennifer Lewis and even Ne-Yo. I highly recommend this for you and your families! It's too cute and has a good message as well!
However, there was a bit of a damper on our evening. I just want to say that I'm a huge fan for giving it a shot at taking a young child to see a children's movie, HOWEVER... when you bring infants and toddlers to a film in a public theatre, you should be well prepared to take your child outside if it starts screaming violently so as to not interrupt the viewing pleasure of others. I paid the equivalent of US $13 (give or take a few cents) per ticket and did not wish to hear approximately 5 children screaming throughout the entire film!!! It got even worse when the couple in front of us tried to cover their toddler's mouth and then started shaking him hard telling him to "shut up!" Of course the poor kid only cried worse and then kicked his mother in the face! I would have kicked her too if she tried to shove her big hand down my throat and then shook me like a dirty ole rug! Anyway, I had to get that off my chest. I don't know what makes people think that they have the right to provide surround sound bawling as part of the soundtrack for a film.
Don't even get me started on people who talk loudly, take photos, use their well-lit cell phones and throw things. Or worse, people who bring their 4 year olds to horror films and then yell at them for being terrified.
With that being said, I enjoyed watching some of the more age appropriate kids in the theatre. One boy in front of me started bouncing during a song and at one point, when he couldn't sit still anymore, got up and started full on rockin out and dancing! TOO CUTE!!! He definitely had a feel for that music!

Product Review: YSL Everlong Mascara

I recently decided to try YSL Singulier mascara, but it wasn't until I got home and opened it did I realize I'd been sold the wrong one. I was to be honest a little annoyed, however I decided to be a sport and try it out. It's the YSL Everlong mascara. It's not bad ladies. If you are going for a more natural lighter look, this mascara is great! I've been wearing it for days when I don't need to cake on the super lengthing formulas I usually prefer. What I will say about this mascara is that the wand applicator is difficult to manage! The first time I put this on, I had it all over my eyelids, but I've gotten used to it now and I like it okay... But this is NOT a dramatic mascara like Diorshow or YSL Singulier. However for those of you readers who like a more subtle look (nothing wrong with that!) try this one! You might like it!

Pink Julep on the Couch: Keeping up with the Kardasians

Is it sad that I'm really looking forward to seeing the premier of Keeping up with the Kardashians tonight? I think these people are probably really normal in a way, but edited for television to look like ratings achieving hot messes and I Love It!!!

The promo shot of them with Kourtney full on popped out pregnant in a nightie, while very brave of her (and she does look gorgeous) is TOTALLY cracking me up!!! How do you get to a point where you'll sign yourself up for that? If I ever end up preggers, no one should expect to photograph me in anything short of a giant snuggy and a pair of Uggs!

Tonight on E! at 10 EST.

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas, But My Nails Say Different!

I recently tried Black Cherry Chutney by OPI for the first time and lady's I'm in Love!

It shows up a nearly black color... the purple in it is very subtle and more of a deep maroon! I will be using this color on my nails for the holidays I think! Would make a great stocking stuffer for a fasionable lady!

Pink Julep at the Salon

I'm getting my hair done today and I'm thinking of something like this but a little lighter blonde:

I'm enjoying the bangs situation, but I can't do them short and front cause to be honest (and a little bit gross) my forehead sweats if I have bangs front and center because of the ridonculous heat here and then they stick to my face! AND then they curl up! Ick!!! But side swipe or parted is okay... and I'm diggin it!
Whatcha think?

Pink Julep's Christmas Wish List

With Christmas only 2 weeks away, I find myself daydreaming about what I will get for Christmas this year! Here are a few things on my Christmas wishlist!

I am desperate for a new day planner and while I'd like a really nice LV or Coach one, I do like to get a new one every year so disposable is probably best! I've got my eye on this one from Rag and Bone:

I'm also keen to get a Fedora! These are great for casual outings when you're not up to washing and more painfully, blowdrying your hair, which basically describes me most of the time! hahaha A fedora would be a replacement for the silk scarves I usually put on my head!

I used to have a pair of Chuck Taylors and I loved them! So I'm hoping for a new pair! So cute!

I also need to stock up on cute flats for work! Aren't these Gucci's TDF!?!?!

I'm dying to get my hands on this Who What Wear book!

Oh how I dream about a pair of Loubs! I'm keen on the Simple 100's since they are the most likely style for me to wear on island... and they're classic!

I've had my eye on an LV for a while and I think hubby might be willing this year! Yippee!!!
And of course, I'm dying for a Clairsonic skin brush! Who isn't, right?!?!
My favorite hair product is not available on island, Bumble and Bumble tonic lotion. I LOVE this and hope to come back with a year's supply!

And of course clothes, accessories, a new ipod (since mine was stolen) a random selection of DVD's and a souivineer from the Lady Gaga Concert! I seriously doubt that I will get all these lovelies for Christmas, but alas... a girl can dream!!! What's on your Christmas list?!?!
