On the Road Again... Windsor & Eton

On Saturday, I decided to do the touristy thing and visit Windsor Castle since I'd heard raves about it from so many people. From Putney Train Station, it only takes about 30 minutes on the train, so it's the perfect day trip destination.

Windsor is a lovely little town and truthfully, it looks like the enormous castle was airlifted from somewhere else and plopped right down into the middle of this picturesque little village.

We took the train to Windsor/Eton Riverside, which is close enough and it's no problem at all finding the castle, however for a shorter walk, there is the Windsor Central Station, which is a little bit closer.

There's quite a bit of walking required when touring the castle so if you choose to visit, make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Also, it's lovely walking around the village and through Eton as well so if you visit, make sure to allow a good few hours to enjoy all this area has to offer.

The Royal Shopping Centre is great! There are all sorts of shops and there's a busy high street as well.

We caught the tail end of a classic Punch & Judy show - it was quite funny!

When we made our way back to the train station, we noticed the hubbub around the river and decided to do some more exploring - that's when we found Eton, home of the famous Eton College for Boys.

You may remember famous Eton graduates such as Prince William and the fictional Bridget Jones hottie Mark Darcy.

Eton is massive! I couldn't believe how big it is and the photos aren't doing it justice at all. Pictured above is the library. We had a great time exploring the area.

Currently at Windsor Castle there is a photo exhibition celebrating the Diamond Jubilee and it's definitely worth checking out. Otherwise, the castle wasn't really my favourite as far as tourist attractions go, but the villages of Windsor & Eton were fabulous and I would definitely go back for shopping, events or even a night out.
