Trendspot: Lady and the Vamp

Camilla Belle caused quite a stir in the fashion & beauty world with her gorgeous vampy lip look at the Met Gala this week. I am a big fan of the vampy lip, especially for a night out - I've been relying on this beauty fix for a few years for added drama when necessary.

A couple of things to remember... As seen on Camilla above, vamp goes with glow like Bonnie goes with Clyde! If your skin is too matte or too pale, the look could come off as goth instead of vamp. This is not to say pale people can't wear the look - I'm very pale! It's only that a little bronzer and a reasonably hefty dose of highlighter really compliments the lip colour and keeps you from looking ill.

Since I'm pale, I don't go for as dark as the colour seen on Camilla - I don't have the olive skin tone to pull it off. My reliable vamp look is slightly more pink. I've been using the same products for a couple of years to get this lippy look. I start with the NARS Velvet Matte Pencil in Damned.

And then I finish off the lips with a little gloss using MAC Plushglass in Oversexed giving it an even deeper colour with a bit of sheen to it.

I love both of these products! I often use them alone as well - the MAC Oversexed Plushglass is beautiful alone - it's glossy but only with a hint of berry pink when worn alone and the NARS Velvet Matte Pencil in Damned is like a matte lipstick, so it looks great alone or with a clear gloss coat over it.

What lip colours are you loving right now?
