My 5 Minute Face Routine

It's taken me the better part of my adult life to finally master my 5 minute face routine, mostly due to my love of make-up and an addiction to all things glamorous. As I've gotten busier over the years, I've made an effort to keep things a bit more simple, especially as warmer weather approaches. I mean, who wants to be stuck indoors doing her make-up for an hour when she can be soaking up some margaritas vitamin D?

Though it may look like there's a lot going on here, I can promise you that this process only takes 5 minutes and though some of the colors might need a variation for people who have different skin tones, most of these products will work for just about everyone. I primarily wear brown shades of eyeshadow and eyeliner (yes, even when I'm wearing black) because browns bring out my blue eyes, but you may prefer black or grey. The trick is to go with neutrals that give an enhanced natural look so you don't have to change up the colors and make tough decisions when you're short on time.

Here's the step-by-step guide I've come up with for a 5 minute face!

Prep Your Face

1. Start with an eye cream dabbed around the brow bone, the outer corners and the top of the cheek bone. I love Creme de la Mer Eye Concentrate, but there are others I've used that work just as well. Any eye cream you love is fine.

2. Moisturize with your favorite moisturizer. I use Creme de la Mer at the moment, but again, whatever you normally wear underneath your make-up should be fine.

3. NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is like a gift from the gods for me. Warm a small amount between your hands and slap it on the way you would any other moisturizer, but take care to blend into the neck properly and around the eyes and nose so it's not too blotchy.

4. I don't even bother with powder when I'm wearing tinted moisturizer because honestly, I don't think it requires a powder layer. Just apply a very light sweep of Benefit Hoola bronzer on your cheekbones, forehead, nose and temples.

5. A quick sweep of NARS Albatross on all the same spots gives a tiny bit of shimmer and highlight. Don't go too heavy on this or it settles in fine lines - a very light touch is perfect.

The Eyes Have It

Obviously if you want major drama in the eyes, a little more time is probably needed, but to just get the basics, this is my method.

6. Sweep NARS Abyssinia under the brow and all over the eyelid.

7. Sweep NARS Fez on the eyelid and into the crease.

8. Line the top and bottom with Jemma Kidd Define Stay Put Eyeliner in Earth and smudge with either your finger or the provided sponge tip.

9. Curl lashes with the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler.

10. Apply one coat of Maybelline Great Lash to top and bottom lashes, starting with the bottom lashes first.

Color Splash
11. Sweep NARS Orgasm blush onto the balls of the cheeks.

13. Complete the look with a dab of minty gloss using C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine.

And that's it... The 5 minute face. Do you have a speedy make-up routine that you use on days when you're pressed for time or just can't be bothered? I'd love to read about your speedy beauty secrets, so leave me a comment below!
