Right Now: Good Reads, Tea, Pub Quiz & American Food in London

  1. I finally had the opportunity to sit down and finish The Ivy Look by Graham Marsh & J.P. Gaul - not that it's a hard read by any stretch, but I haven't had a lot of reading time lately. If you love Americana, jazz, the 60's, Kerouac, pop culture, Ivy style, preppy culture or consider yourself to be a dedicated follower of fashion in general, then this book is worth the few hours it will take you to read it. It's full of amazing vintage advertisements, album covers and images alongside info on how this look came to be. Though The Ivy Look primarily addresses menswear, it's all about the history of classic styles and brands that are mostly as unisex as they are cool. Weejuns, seersucker, button collars and the jazz age come together in this manual of sorts that's small enough to fit in your clutch and a style reference you'll want to go back to time and time again! For all you fellas out there, The Ivy Look is especially a must-read for you, but I recommend it for ladies with classic style sensibilities as well...
  2. It's all about Green Tea for me these days and lately I'm loving Teapigs Mao Feng Green Tea
  3. The Devil is back y'all - this time Revenge Wears Prada! Has anyone read it yet? I can't wait!
  4. This week I joined some fabulous folks at the launch of a new eatery in Richmond called Urban Diner. It's just what you'd expect from the name - an American-style diner serving up American boozey treats alongside foods like hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken wings. The dogs were amazing as were the Mojitos and it's the first time I've seen a Long Island Iced Tea since I left the US in 2008... Amazing!
  5. I went to my first pub quiz at the Half Moon Putney this week and it was a lot of fun. Interrupted every 20 minutes or so with a spurt of Rock & Roll Bingo to shake things up, it's a fun way to spend a couple of hours on a Monday night. I understand from the fabulous folks at the Half Moon that this is a regular weekly thing, so if you live in Southwest London, head on down - maybe you'll win some gig tickets or a £50 bar tab!

  1. Mmmm...Urban Diner sounds awesome, shall have to add it to my ever extending eatery list!
