The Business of Fast Fashion Video

There have been lots of debates over the past few years about the sustainability of fast fashion, the effects it has on the environment and the effect it's having on the fashion industry as a whole. I for one feel the whiplash these days just knowing that many fast fashion chains come out with new products on a weekly basis - it's impossible to keep up! With that said, over the past few years, I've also noticed that much of what's available in such stores all looks the same and has done for quite some time. A good example of this is the skater dress... It seems we've been seeing skater dresses in every possible color, print, fabric and variation every couple of weeks or so for the past three years. Knowing this always makes me wonder if perhaps our incessant need for something new is overpowering the need for something good and if that scenario is slowly crippling the creativity in the industry. Even luxury design houses are feeling the stretch with pre-fall, resort and other 'in-between' lines being added to their rosters each year... It begs the question: Is more really more?

I can't seem to wrap my head around whether or not the business of fast fashion represents a decline, a change we're resistant to, a sign of the times economic and otherwise or just a fad... It's hard to tell. However, I do think it's important as consumers to know what we're buying and supporting and this video from is a good place to start. It's charming, clever and in just one minute, provides a ton of information. I just had to share - enjoy!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the video and fast fashion - are you all for it, totally against it or on the fence?
