6 Tips For Proper Sweater Care

1. Always fold your sweaters. Never hang them - hanging sweaters causes the shoulders to lose their shape.
2. Invest in a good comb for de-pilling and use it regularly. I have a Brora Cashmere Comb and it's great. It's probably the best thing I've ever bought for £2.50.
3. If your sweater requires hand-washing or is delicate, expensive or cashmere, use an appropriate detergent as normal ones can be too harsh. Try Woolite or a special cashmere shampoo.
4. If you hand wash your sweater or it can't be tumble dried, be sure to dry it flat. Manipulate it's shape so that it doesn't stretch into an awkward shape.
5. If you are storing your sweaters, be sure to wash them first and store them in sealed bags with cedar balls to protect them from worms, mites and bugs.
6. If your sweater has a funny smell (often happens when it's air dried) try steam ironing it at an appropriate temperature to get the smell out.
