Pink Julep Weekender - May 8, 2015

Happy Friday! To kick the weekend off right, here are five things to keep you occupied while you're off duty…

1. Listen: Singer/Songwriter Chris Stapleton has been a Nashville staple for a while. Formerly the front man for The Steeldrivers, he's penned a rather impressive number of songs heard on the albums of some of the music world's biggest stars including Adele, Luke Bryan, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, and Josh Turner to name a few. Chris's debut album Traveller is newly released this month and not to be missed. You can get it on iTunes and trust me, you won't be sorry… I've not seen a review yet that's less than stellar and his bluesy, soulful voice is the stuff of legends. Click here to get the album on iTunes and see for yourself.

2. Make: Why not try baking my recipe for No Knead Irish Soda Bread Loaf? It's great when it's warm, fresh from the oven, but it keeps for a few days in an airtight container so you can enjoy it throughout the week.

3. Watch: When I worked in theater, I never heard the end of love and praise for Jason Robert Brown's musical The Last Five Years. I never saw the show or listened to a cast recording, but I recently saw the film version and I loved it! The Last Five Years stars Anna Kendrick and and Jeremy Jordan as Cathy and Jamie, a couple whose 5-year love affair has come undone. The story is told from the point of view of both characters with Cathy starting at the end of the relationship and working backwards while Jamie starts at the beginning of the story and works forwards. The music is astounding, the performances are great and the story is inventive and touching. The Last Five Years is available to buy or rent on iTunes.

4. Eat: The Brew Cafe is a relatively new addition to Putney and a welcome one at that. It's the perfect spot for brunch or breakfast in Southwest London and I highly recommend the Chorizo Folded Eggs.

5. Read: I finished The Girl on the Train in less than 24 hours. It's gripping, addictive and really original. For more information, click here to see my full review.
