Star Spangled Girl

With all the recent news, it seems as though it may be tough to celebrate the 4th of July, but no matter how far I roam, or how long I'm out of the USA, I always make it a point to observe the holiday. Though the election has divided the country at home and Brexit has many Americans among others in poor spirits here in the UK, it's important to take any opportunity to get in the festive mood and celebrate our freedoms. I marked the occasion over the weekend by hosting some friends, none of which are American, for a good ole fashioned Southern feast of BBQ pulled pork and macaroni & cheese because I need very little excuse for a dinner party and anytime I can serve my favorites is worth getting excited about. We four represented the USA, Ireland, Britain and Australia, but I find no one ever turns down a chance to celebrate the 4th of July... After all, America has given them Friends, the iPhone, McDonald's, the NFL (surprisingly a quite popular sport in London now), J. Crew and Elvis - plenty to celebrate whether a Yank or not and America by it's founding and very nature is a melting pot of different cultures and nationalities. That's what's always made it so wonderful...

As for wardrobe, a stars & stripes bikini isn't really the order of the day here in London, so I opted for a red, white & blue plaid shirt and an all-American Weekender watch by Timex... Perfect for showing my patriotic pride while still being comfortable in our fickle weather on this side of the pond. How are you celebrating the 4th of July this year?
