I can't get enough of British sunrises, though occasionally there's not much sun to it. Even without the sun, the light in the early mornings this time of year in London is just magical and the silhouettes of the houses, chimneys and church steeples against the horizon as the sky goes from black to blue reminds me so much of Disney films I loved as a child like Peter Pan or Mary Poppins. I can easily imagine that Burt is up on the rooftops cleaning chimneys just in time for Santa's visit or that somewhere out there Wendy, Michael and John might be sitting by a big bay window, impatiently hoping for a visit from Peter or Tinkerbell. More likely, families are starting to rise, breakfasts are being prepared & eaten and people are dressing for school or work. It's still a beautiful scene and every time I'm lucky enough to see it I think of how grateful I am to live in such a beautiful place where mornings are peaceful, at least before the rush hour starts and evenings are often painted with a similar dusky light, the air peppered with the sounds of dishes clinking from kitchen windows after families have had dinner together... In short, it's just lovely.
