A Day in the Life of Pink Julep

A Day in the Life of Pink Julep

If I had a pound for every time someone asked me "What do you do all day?" I'd be a wealthy woman. It's fair I think... While so many of you undoubtedly know a full-time influencer or digital freelancer, it's all still very new and not at all surprising that people who are used to a 9 to 5 job wouldn't understand what a day looks like for those of us who never step foot inside an office. So with that in mind, I thought I'd share what a day in the life looks like for me. One of the best things about what I do is that I get to make my own schedule, but it's also been one of the hardest things over the years to get used to in terms of discipline. It can be quite hard sometimes because when everyone else is off, that's not always the case for me and I probably work more hours than most of the people I know, so it's not an easier life per-say, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. It works for me and I love it. No two days are ever exactly the same, but here's a general idea of what a typical weekday looks like for me...

6:00 - 7:00am - I normally wake up around 6am, grab a shower and make coffee, post my first Instagram photo of the day, post for my freelance clients, steam my outfit for the day if it needs it and just try to wake up in general. I wear contacts, so I can't just get up and start getting dressed straight away - I need time for my eyes to wake up and this hour of the day is one of the most important for me.

7:00 - 8:00am - Get dressed for a shoot and the day. I don't always wear the same thing for the whole day, but any structure that I can have at all is important for me to maintain a sense of normalcy in my rather unstructured day. Getting dressed for work is part of that, even if I'm not going anywhere or if I have to change for a workout later in the day.

8:00 - 8:15am - Shoot... I try to shoot every day that I can because the weather in London is unpredictable at best and I don't want to spend every minute of my weekend shooting. My husband Marc is an amateur photographer, so he takes all my photos and we have to shoot around his work schedule. If the weather is bad or in the peak of winter when it's too dark outside in the mornings, we skip the shoots, but it means we have to do more photography on the weekends, so we do whatever we can in the mornings before work.

8:15am - 9:30am - Check emails, edit photos and admin. Not every day, but most days I go to reformer Pilates class at 10am, so I also change clothes during this time, fill my water bottle and get my backpack together for class.

9:30 - 11:30am - I walk to my Pilates class and sometimes I stop for a takeaway coffee on the way if I have time, take my class and then walk back.

11:30 - 1:30pm - These hours are usually up for grabs for anything I need to fit in whether it's writing content, taking a meeting, grabbing a coffee with a friend or work contact or doing some admin. I'll also have my lunch during this time.

1:30 - 6:00pm - These are the hours when I create the majority of the content for Pink Julep and social media. I'll either do this work at home or I'll go to a local coffee shop. That said, every day is different, so sometimes I use these hours for attending press events, work lunches and review opportunities. On other days I might spend the majority of this time taking some photos or recipe testing. At least two days a week I also fit my dance practices and private lessons into these hours.

6:00 - 8:00pm - Again, every day is a bit different, but I usually have a bit of a break between 6pm and 8pm. Normally I use this time to attend evening events, organise and edit photos for upcoming posts, fine-tune my editorial schedule, check emails, choose what I'm going to wear or shoot the next day or finish any pressing blog content that I didn't complete earlier that day before my husband comes home.  If I'm feeling all caught up on work and I don't have an event, I'll make dinner and spend time with my husband when he gets home, talking about our days or watching a bit of telly.

8:00 - 11:00pm - This is my downtime when I watch TV, check out what's happening on Instagram and just chill out in general. I might take a hot bath if I'm sore from my workouts or do a few adulting chores like organise my grocery delivery, but most of the time I try to veg out a bit before bed.

Weekends - Writing a blog requires as much time and effort as you're willing to put into it, so the weekends aren't really off limits for me. I often use time on both Saturday and Sunday to shoot photos, visit places I want to review, or catch up on admin things I need to get done for upcoming posts, etc. I also work out and often have a dance practice during the weekend as well.

Busiest Days of the Week - Monday and Wednesday are my busiest days of the week. I don't have as much scheduled away from my desk on these days as others usually, so I can sit down and really hammer out a lot of work. Fridays are also lighter in terms of scheduling, but I usually try to knock off work early on a Friday afternoon if I can to get a head start on the weekend, especially if I'm planning to work or shoot on Saturday and Sunday.

That's a wrap... What does your typical week usually look like?
