7 Uniquely Fun Date Night Ideas in London

Olympic Studios Barnes

It's easy enough to get into a rut when you're dating, especially if you're trying to juggle schedules and you aren't exactly the best and finding interesting things to do. If you're married, living together or going out quite a lot, it can also be intimidating to just go out for drinks or dinner all the time because you might not have too much news to chat about. Sometimes it's a lot more fun and you can learn a bit more about your date when you engage in an activity on a date or at least try a few things that can be talking points. The following suggestions are all places I've been to that are so much fun for a date night whether it's the first date or you've been married for a decade like I have. These suggestions cover a variety of budgets, so there's something for everyone. Better still, if you're not looking forward to a date anytime soon, these options would all be great fun with your buddies as well.

1. Olympic Studios
Located in beautiful Barnes, which is just between Richmond and Putney on the south side of the river, Olympic Studios is not your average cinema. A former recording studio used by the likes of the Rolling Stones, Oasis and The Spice Girls to name a few, this London gem is now a private members club, but most of it is open to the public, including a restaurant and the movie theatre. This cinema is lush and beautiful inside with comfy red seating and even love seats available if you're feeling snuggly. The programming rotates regularly, so there's always lots to choose from. Members do get advanced ticket sales and many showing do sell out, so it's a good idea to book in advance. For more information or to book visit olympiccinema.co.uk.

2. Chelsea Clip n' Climb
I booked a rock wall climbing evening for my husband and I to do as a birthday treat for him and we've been back several times since. It makes a great date night, hanging out [pun intended] listening to fun music and getting active. We encourage each other, laugh at each other, race against each other to the top and it's always a good time. I'm sure there are plenty of places across London where you can climb a rock wall, but Chelsea Clip n' Climb is the only one I've been to and I keep going back. It's not too expensive and there's a great pub called The Rose nearby where we usually grab a drink afterwards alonside some fried mac & cheese balls. I recommend booking the adult only sessions unless you're going with children. For more information or to book your climb, visit clipnclimbchelsea.co.uk.

3. Queens Skate • Dine • Bowl
What could be better than bowling, burgers, ice skating, drinks, ice karting and curling all in the same convenient location? It's impossible not to have fun at Queens in Bayswater. If you've never had Meat Liquor burgers you're in for an incredible treat and the venue is a lot of fun with fun decor and an upbeat vibe. Queens is located just a short walk away from both the Queensway and Bayswater tube stations and booking in advance is advisable. For more information or to book, visit queens.london.

Swingers London Soho

4. Swingers
It's not what you think... Swingers is the cutest mini-golf place with two locations in London. Both locations have two different themed courses, but the fun doesn't stop there. Multiple bars and food vendors make this the perfect place for a date night. Grab a drink, work up an appetite during your tee time while you test your crazy golf skills and finish the evening with dinner and a few more drinks in the quirky, fun venue. It's a lot of fun and don't forget to take a photo at the end before you leave that you can have emailed to you. For more information or to make a booking visit swingersldn.com.

5. Vagabond Wine Tasting
If you and your date love variety as much as you enjoy a great glass of wine, then an evening at Vagabond is going to be fun for you. Put some money on a card, order some delicious food and get to the dispensers to start tasting some wines. It's that simple and if you find something you really love, you can buy a bottle or two to take home with you. I've been to both the Charlotte Street and the Fulham locations and both were good fun, but there are a few others in the city. The food offering isn't exactly the same at every location as far as I remember, so it's a good idea to check what's on offer at your chosen location before you go, but there's always something delicious to enjoy that you can wash down with a variety of lovely wines. For more information or to book a reservation, visit vagabondwines.co.uk.

Fulham Market Halls

3. Market Halls
Can't decide what to eat when you're out together? Why not try a little of everything or at least go to a place where you can sit together, but both have something different. Market Halls is one of my favourite places for this kind of date. There are currently two locations in London in Fulham and Victoria with a further West End location coming soon. Drinks at the bar, coffee available if needed, lots of food choices and a few dessert options too mean that eating at Market Halls is always a lot of fun. I love the cocktails there and on weekend evenings the atmosphere is great. It's the perfect solution to a date when you can't decide between you what to order, but my personal preference is to order several things from various vendors and share them all. However you choose to enjoy it, it's a delicious way to spend the evening. Visit markethalls.co.uk for more information.

7. Dinner and a show at Menier Chocolate Factory
I had always wanted to see a show at the Menier Chocolate Factory since learning about the iconic theatre in university, but I never knew there was a restaurant there until I finally went there recently. The food is really good too! It's the perfect dinner and a show date location as it's all under the same roof in a building that was formerly a - you guessed it - chocolate factory.  I recommend trying the popular buttermilk fried chicken with the Menier Hot Sauce and to be honest, the restaurant is worth trying whether you see a show or not, but the theatre space is really cool. Many popular and successful shows got started at Menier Chocolate Factory, so you never know - you might just see the next big show there. Also on offer are set menus to accommodate the shows if you feel like making it a proper theme night. To make a reservation, book tickets or for more information, visit menierchocolatefactory.com
