Every year when it gets even colder, all the winter clothes start to disappear and the fashion industry taunts us with warm weather wear that hits the racks as early as January. Not only does this make me miss the sun, but it also creates space for a style rut since there's very little newness to take advantage of that's appropriate for the weather. These 5 simple style hacks are how I continue wearing the same winter clothes in my closet without getting bored...

1. Colour Pop Tights
Tights are the easiest and most affordable accessory for making the biggest impact when you're trying to style a dress or skirt in a completely new way. Give that little black dress a new lease on life with a pop of colour or even a print while you show off your legs at the same time. Where tights are concerned, you can spend as much as you're willing, however I often find some really cute coloured tights for a steal on Amazon among other places.

2. Show Your Sleeves
Layering is almost a necessity when it's super cold, but you can show off more than just your collar or the front of your top underneath a cardigan. Roll up the outer sleeve to show a little peek around your forearms. Make it interesting with contrasting colours and/or prints. If you're wearing your coat, scrunch up the outside sleeve and let the underneath sleeve show around the cuff. This little layering trick can really elevate and switch up how you wear some of the pieces in your closet you might be getting bored with, giving them new life.

3. More is More With Prints
Print mixing is always fun, whether you're pairing two of the same print like leopard on leopard (as seen in the photo above) or multiple black & white polka dot pieces, or you're going all out pairing different prints. Some combos I love are leopard with plaid, contrasting polka dots, gingham with polka dots or stripes with tartans. Get creative, find patterns that complement each other and enjoy wearing pieces together that you've never matched before. It can be a bold choice, but taking a risk with your look can be fun!

4. Brighten Up Your Outerwear
Chances are you're spending a lot of time in your coat, especially if your plans involve time outside. Use this as an opportunity to play with your look by adding a fun new coat to your wardrobe. Pick a solid colour or a pattern and take your winter coat game to the next level.

5. Don't Hide Your Socks
This is one of my favourite style hacks. Roll up your trousers, wear cropped jeans, wear cute socks with a skirt or dress & bare legs or pop them on with a pair of heels and enjoy putting them front and centre as the statement piece in your look. Whether you choose colourful knee-highs, over the knee socks or something frilly like a lace pair, a little something fancy on your feet is always a good way to elevate your style!
