Bag: Accessorize |
1. It's in the Bag
It's amazing how a bag update can give your wardrobe a new lease on life. Whether you opt for a classic style or something fun & trendy for the season like a bum bag, adding the perfect arm candy to your look can help you get out of that mid-winter style rut. Personally, I would suggest a colour that fits into the palette of as much of your wardrobe as possible, but that's different from the other bags in your wardrobe. You can spend a little or a lot - a nice bag doesn't have to cost a fortune, but if you decide to go with a budget buy, a structural classic silhouette will elevate a more affordable bag purchase. This season I opted for a camel brown structured cross-body tote I found on-sale at Laura Ashley that didn't cost much at all. Since I normally carry bags that are either black or a bright colour, a brown bag is the perfect way to create whole new looks with the pieces that are already in my closet. I especially enjoy wearing it with black for a bit of contrast.

Dress: H&M / Belt: ASOS |
A new belt is great for dressing up jeans, cinching cardigans or defining the waistline of a flouncy, floaty dress. There are so many styles available that there's definitely something for everyone. I've invested in 3 belts this season and they've been invaluable for adding a little something extra to a number of pieces in my wardrobe. A skinny, brightly coloured belt is perfect for jeans or other trouser styles, while a wide belt with a big buckle can be perfect for giving yourself a more curvy silhouette, changing the shape of looks you've worn before to give them a whole new effect.

3. Colourful Tights
A pop of colour is always good fun and one of the easiest, most affordable ways to do this is with a bright pair of tights. Available at pretty much any price point, opaque tights in your favourite colour can be layered under dresses, skirts, jeans, trousers or shorts. The options are limitless. If you only buy one pair, invest in a colour that works with several pieces in your wardrobe. Red is usually a good choice. If you want to really make an impact, try a few different colours. Pastels are also a fun way to change up a winter look and make it a bit more Springy as the new season approaches.

Scarf: Rose Mae Jewellery / Bag: Laura Ashley (sold out - similar here) |
There are so many things you can do with a beautiful, silky scarf depending on the length you choose and they are available at every price from bargain basement to super high end. Whether you choose something affordable or invest in something really special, a scarf is so easy to incorporate into your daily wardrobe. Put it in your hair, tie it around the handle of your bag, wear it as a belt, drape it around your neck... The options are endless and the colours and prints available are vast. A scarf is also a great way to incorporate a trend you're not completely sold on, but would love to dabble in like animal print for example. If you're not completely convinced to buy that leopard print dress, a simple scarf in the print will work with so many of the dresses you are happy to buy.
5. A Great Hair Accessory
There are so many hair accessories available lately that it's hard to imagine there wouldn't be one for pretty much anyone's personal style. From scrunchies to headbands, a little zhush in your hair is a great way to change up your look. A simple black dress becomes instantly more formal with a bejewelled Alice band and you can buy them for as little as £10. A pantsuit you wear to work that seems a little tired can be a little bit more chic with the addition of some barrettes or a bow in your hair. There are so many options, I'm sure you'll want to invest in loads.
