5 Ideas for a Lockdown Valentine's Day at Home

5 Ideas for a Lockdown Valentine's Day at Home

Depending on where you are, but I'm guessing it's the same for nearly all of us, Valentine's Day will be like none other we've experienced before this year. Personally, I always avoid restaurants and nights out on Valentine's Day because I usually find the evening over-subscribed and under-delivered. I think last year we ordered Nando's and watched TV. That said, I do always enjoy marking the day in some way because I love my sweetie and I'm a sucker for any excuse to celebrate.

If you're stuck for inspiration on how to make the day special while in lockdown, here are some ideas for celebrating that will make the day just as special as if you could book a restaurant reservation.

1. Movie Night
Turn off your phones, stock up on Haribo, pop some popcorn, grab a blanket and snuggle up with some great movies! Here are a few options...

Netflix
  1. About Time
  2. The Lucky One
  3. P.S. I Love You
  4. The Notebook
  5. The Lake House
NowTV
  1. Valentine's Day
  2. Titanic
  3. Roman Holiday
  4. Jerry Maguire
  5. Friends With Benefits
Amazon Prime
  1. The American President
  2. Pretty Woman
  3. The Proposal
  4. Romeo & Juliet
  5. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
Disney+
  1. The Last Song
  2. Ratatouille
  3. 10 Things I Hate About You
  4. 27 Dresses
  5. Edward Scissorhands
2. Fondue for Two
There's something about the interactive nature of fondue that makes it perfect for an at-home date night! The dipping ensues and before you know it, you're lost in conversation and opening a second bottle of wine. It's also super easy to make and takes less than half an hour, so it's not so laborious that you find yourself too exhausted to enjoy it when it's ready. 3. Dinner Out, But In
Whether you choose to be casual and order your regular favourite takeaway or splurge on one of the many options for luxury fine dining at home, it's easier than ever right now to enjoy your favourite restaurant experiences from the comfort of your own home. Click here to check out Private Dining Rooms which has options for restaurant home delivery boxes or simply Google to find what's available in your area. Light some candles, get dressed for the occasion, put on a play list you like and open a bottle of your favourite wine. Date night sorted!

4. Make Something Special for Dinner Together
Spending time together is really the most romantic thing ever, but it can get difficult during lockdown when you're together 24/7 without much to talk about... Why not try making something together to inject a bit of newness into the situation? It's a fun little project and then you can sit down and enjoy it afterwards. Homemade pasta or bread are obvious choices here, but the options are endless and it will not only give you something to do, but also something to talk about while you're eating it.

5. Have an Indoor Picnic
Blankets on the floor, candle light, a bottle of wine, a baguette & cheese... Hello Romance! Switch it up a little with an indoor picnic. Go to a different room if you have one or even outside if you're allowed. Hang some fairy lights for a bit of atmosphere and try something different for a change. I love this idea and it might be what I decide to do with my husband this year!
